[ARCHIVED] Lift Stations Getting Clogged

The DPW workers are on call 24/7. When a lift station (commonly referred to as a pump station) has a malfunction, they rush to make sure this does not have effect on the neighboring houses. Recently, we have had a few stations experience some down time. When the DPW comes on scene, they find all kinds of things clogging the pump! Diapers, rags, mop heads, personal cleansing wipes, feminine products, and even kids underwear!

Some of these things are obviously not supposed to go down the toilet. Others tout they are biodegradable and will basically dissolve, but this isn't the case. Only bodily fluids and toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet. Anything else runs the risk of clogging the system and causing much larger issues for you as the homeowner.

Also, talk to your kids. Maybe a potty-trained child had a mistake and instead of telling their parents about it - threw their underwear down the toilet. Problem solved. Coincidentally, this isn't the first time kids underwear has been pulled out of a lift station in the same area in the past few months.

Help us save your tax dollars for other things in the City. Don't flush your tax money down the toilet!
